On January 29th 2015 the Government of Greenland gave its approval to Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S’s choice of contractor for the construction of the new harbour in Nuuk and gave the go ahead to start work on preparations.
On the basis of this, Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S has signed a conditional agreement with Per Aarsleff Grønland ApS concerning the establishment of a new container terminal in Nuuk in Greenland. The first phase, which includes preliminary planning and preparations, will now go ahead. The final contract is expected to be signed in the next few months.
The value of the total contract, which is a turn-key project, is DKK 402m. Work starts at the beginning of March and is expected to be finished by November 2016. The final contract will include the construction of a new container terminal with a 300m quay and dredging of the new harbour. The work also includes the construction of buildings for administration, warehousing and workshops.
Construction work will involve a considerable percentage of local labour, both skilled and unskilled and include trainees and apprentices. In all, use of Greenlandic labour will be the equivalent of 90 full-time jobs for one year.
The Prime Minister, Kim Kielsen, states:
